MATCH OF THE ROUND: Monash beats La Trobe in University Duel

Last Saturday saw a tight contest between La Trobe and Monash University in B-grade, with MUBC taking the W 6-4.

Both fielding and hitting were excellent, according to MUBC Coach Michael Hunt, who congratulated his team on their performance.

“Today was excellent. Very sharp on the field and excellent in the batting box,” he said.

Hunt nominated starting pitcher Donnie Poole as Player of the Match, who went the whole game and remained persistent throughout.

“He gave up only two earned runs, it was an excellent day for him,” Hunt said.

Speaking with a humble Donnie Poole, he made note of some of the obstacles he faced during the match.

“It was alright, could’ve been better. Struggled with control a little bit but got the job done,’ he said.

In terms of what could have gone better, coach Hunt admitted that while the fielding was exceptional, there were still areas of improvement for the team.

“Pitch selection could’ve been better today in the batting box for a few of us,’ he said.

Moving into finals, Hunt commented on how he feels about the upcoming week for MUBC.

“We’re not guaranteed our 4th spot, so it’s going to be tight at the end. Hopefully we have a win next week, then we can probably bank finals,” Hunt said.

As for his love for baseball in general, Hunt said he cherished his ability to continue to play the game at his age.

“I’m still physically able to play at 43 years of age, and it’s just an amazing sport. I’ve been playing it since I was 14 so I’m just passionate about it,” he said.

Overall, a tight contest resulted in a two run win for MUBC, as they remain in fifth place on the B-grade ladder.
