MATCH OF THE ROUND: EBC strikeout NCR-W-W in U13 Match

Last Saturday, the Diamond Valley U13 Majors saw an action-packed game between the Essendon Bombers and NCR-Wat-West at Mill Park, with EBC taking the win 15-7.

Teamwork was the key, according to EBC Coach Shane Waters, who applauded his team for their efforts.

“We hit the ball well today. A lot of hard hit balls, stolen bases, tore the base paths up, pitched well, threw the ball hard when we were pitching, and our field backed up the pitchers well,” he said.

Waters found it difficult to nominate a sole player that stood out, and instead noted that the boys working together is what ultimately earned them the win.

“It was a team effort, everyone stood out, the whole team stood out today,” Waters said.

Speaking with a few of the U13 players including Joshua Jones, Jaxon Waters, Jackson Frendo, and Luis Fazio, each explained their take-aways.

“My favourite part was getting to pitch, and getting to strikeout batters, and just being the main part of a bit of the game,” said Frendo.

“I was really happy that I got to come in and catch halfway through the game, because I thought I wasn’t going to catch today – it was lots of fun,” said Fazio.

“One thing that I did well today was I hit a triple, and my pitching was good,” said Jones.

“I was proud of my catching because I didn’t let many balls get past,” said Waters.

Although they are sitting pretty at the top of the ladder, coach Waters still made note of some of the things the team could have improved on.

“Our approach to the box. We could’ve jumped on those pitches and put those balls into play when they were down the middle,” he said.

As for how he feels about baseball in general, Waters exclaimed his love for the sport.

How can you not love the game of baseball? It’s the best game in the world. It’s a very challenging sport, and a very rewarding sport as well,” he said.

Another win by EBC U13 Majors to solidify their spot on top as they head into finals in the coming weeks.
