BIG hitting Greenhills Montmorency Baseball Club were too strong for Ringwood on Saturday, getting the points with a 6 to 4 win in round nine of the Melbourne Winter Baseball League A grade competition.
GMBC coach Dave Tierney said despite going down on the scoreboard early with a home run to Ringwood, they were able to claim the lead soon after with back to back home runs from Mitch Ellis and Ryan Booth.
Ringwood then scored another home run to take the game to two all before GMBC’s Slade Squire hit a two run home run to take back the lead, 4 to 2.
Runs were then scored with hits from outstanding young players Bronson Neave and Nikau Pouka-Grego.
“They’re 14 or 15 and both superstars. Both much younger than we’d normally have in the team,” Tierney said.
Tierney said it was close and tight all day, with plenty of big hitting and that he was happy to get the win on a wet, soggy field.
