North Balwyn thrilling last innings win against Forest Hill
By SALLY HEPPLESTON
NORTH Balwyn has staged a dramatic come from behind win in the preliminary final against Forest Hill to book a spot in the big game against Heathmont next week, in what will be a grand final replay.
North Balwyn trailed 0-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning before rallying to score five runs to pinch an incredible win.
North Balwyn coach Neil Burke said Forest Hill were clearly the better side for eight and a half innings and that they were lucky to escape with the win.
“Baseball is a crazy game. They were the better side for most of the match, full credit to them,” Burke said.
“They’re a good young team and no discredit to them.
“But we should be proud, too. We kept ourselves in the game with some good pitching from Tyler Dale and Jeremy Young.
“Then we had those clutch hits in the end.”
Burke said it was pleasing to make another grand final to get a crack at league benchmarks Heathmont again.
Burke said they were still missing a few key players, overseas on Australian baseball commitments but that the players who had stepped up were holding their own.
Forest Hill coach Adam Blackley was unavailable for comment.
The grand final will be played at La Trobe University’s diamond next Saturday.
