WAVERLEY continue to impress after a convincing home ground win against La Trobe University in round 5 of the Melbourne Winter Baseball League B grade competition.

Waverley coach Donovan Hendricks said Evan Phillip was strong offensively in the 11-3 win. He said Matty Orwin also pitched well.

“It really was a solid effort from the whole team today,” he said.

“Everyone had a hit.”

La Trobe University coach Daniel Bennett said his team were in it early but that their fielding let them down.

“The game got away from us,” he said.

“We are going ok this season, we’ve had a couple of wins. This was our second loss today and we’ve had a draw. Our other loss was 2-0.”

Bennett said the club had a lot of players away this week, which made it tough to field teams across the club.

La Trobe take on Croydon and Waverley will face the Plenty Valley Redbacks.
