RINGWOOD are back on the winners list after a strong 8-4 win over Watsonia in round 2 of the Melbourne Winter Baseball League season. Played at Proclamation Park in Ringwood, the visitors were able to get out to a quick 3-0 lead. Ringwood were able to square things up and with Watsonia edging back ahead to a 4-3 lead, Ringwood then stormed home in the bottom of the final inning with five runs to take the win.
Ringwood coach Adam Bright, who is not playing this season, said it was an impressive win for the club.
“We batted really well today, particularly in the bottom of the last. Jacob Evans was really good at bat today,” he said.
Ringwood are home again next week against Essendon.
Watsonia coach Adam Burton said his club were outplayed late in the match.
“We had them two out but with a couple of walks and a couple of hits, that’s the ball game,” he said.
Burton praised pitcher Michael Formisano and Christian Snelson and Dave Nolten who had big hits.
“They (Ringwood) were just better later in the game today,” Burton said.
Watsonia are home against Greensborough next week.
