Heathmont V Greensborough

REIGNING A Grade premiers Heathmont made light work of Greensborough in round two of the Melbourne Winter Baseball League on Saturday.

Played at Elder Street Reserve, Heathmont were never challenged by the young Greensborough side and ran off with an 8-0 win.

Heathmont coach Matt Gourlay said his pitchers did a lot of hard work, with Matt Wilson strong on the mound for four innings and Sam Gibbon closing out for the last three.

“They were both outstanding today,” Gourlay said.

“It was a bit different having the break for Easter so early last week and quite a few of our guys had a long summer.

“We were really confident at bat today, too. We really were strong all through the line up.”

Next week Heathmont will line up for a grand final rematch against North Balwyn.

Greensborough coach Tim Sullivan said it wasn’t their day.

“It wasn’t great, but it just wasn’t our day and we were well and truly outplayed. We’ve got a lot of young kids and had six changes since last year, so that will take a little bit of time,” he said.

Greensborough travel to Watsonia next week.

In other A Grade results, Ringwood were too good for Watsonia 8-4, North Balwyn had a narrow win over Greenhills Montmorency, 2-1 Doncaster beat Forest Hill 6-0 and Research thumped Essendon 13-1.
