GREENHILLS Montmorency Baseball Club were too good for up-and-coming Doncaster in round 3 of the Melbourne Winter Baseball League A grade competition on Saturday.
Played at GMBC’s home ground, the home side beat the A grade newcomers 8-5.
GMBC coach Scott Dawes said it was a solid win for his team, which put them at two wins and one loss.
He said Dave Tierney was good with the bat, returning from a long-term injury and that Andy Mann pitched well in relief.
Doncaster Coach Brendan McDonald said his team was close all day and showed positive signs.
He said last week was a big week for the club when they won their first ever game in A grade.
“Last year we won the B grade grand final for the first time and now we’re in A grade for the first time. As a club we keep doing things we’ve never done before. Last week showed off a lot off hard work by the club,” he said.
Doncaster take on what McDonald described as the benchmark team in Heathmont next week which he said would be a big day for the club.
“There is really a good vibe around the place here,” he said.
“We pitched well today but not as well as we have. But we are really strong at our at bats right through the line up.”
GMBC are away next week to Research.
