Watsonia take the points against local rivals Greenhills Montmorency

By SALLY HEPPLESTON

IN the local battle for the last two finals spots, Watsonia knocked off the big hitting Greenhills Montmorency Baseball Club 7-2 at Loyola Reserve on Saturday.

GMBC were third and Watsonia were fourth going in to the match, and Watsonia were keen to turn their fortunes around after going down to Heathmont last week.

“It was a great game for us today and our pitcher Luke Abels kept them quiet,” Watsonia coach Adam Burton said.

“He really set the game up for us and kept their bats quiet, and they are a big hitting side,”

Watsonia were also helped by home runs coming from Aaron Sayers and Jarryd Rogers.

Watsonia take on Essendon next week and hope their winning form continues, but over the coming weeks they will miss key players due to international commitments.

“That hurts us but that’s what makes today such a great win,” Burton said.

GMBC coach Scott Dawes was unavailable for comment after the game.
