GREENHILLS Montmorency Baseball Club is continuing their strong march towards the finals after a comprehensive 11-3 win over Forest Hill at Malcolm Blair Reserve on Saturday in round 15 of the Melbourne Winter Baseball League season.
GMBC coach Chris Hodkinson said it was a solid performance from the whole team.
“We hit well today with a few very long shots by Matthew Kent, Andy Tierney and Liam Crivelli. Our defence and pitching was solid today as well and has been for the past month,” Hodkinson said.
With only two losses for the year, GMBC sit in third spot on the ladder behind Research and North Balwyn.
They will face both those teams in the coming weeks, which Hodkinson said would be a good test before finals.
Forest Hill coach Phil Bertrand said GMBC were too good.
“They were certainly the superior side on the day. Our pitching was good but they just hit the ball well through the line up. It was a totally disappointing performance from us, they got hits off our good pitches, too,” Bertrand said.
Bertrand said the remainder of the season was about staying positive, working on young players and trying to scramble a few wins to avoid relegation.
“We’ve just got to keep being competitive. The games don’t get any easier from here on in. Our young players will be better for it.”
Forest Hill are home next week to Research.
