GREENHILLS and Montmorency Baseball Club held on for a walk off win against powerhouse club Heathmont in round 11 of the Melbourne Winter Baseball League season at Malcolm Blair Reserve on Saturday.
Ryan Booth got the winning hit in the bottom of the last inning to deliver GMBC the 7 to 6 win.
GMBC coach Chris Hodkinson said it was an awesome day and a great game of baseball.
“Coming up against Heathmont, they’re a real fire power team and to keep their bats quiet, we’re very happy with the win,” Hodkinson said.
He praised Matthew Lawman who scored two home runs, Liam Crivelli who had one home run and Booth who sealed the win.
He also said pitching duo Andy Mann and Matt McQuiggan were strong on the day.
GMBC are now sitting a game clear in third position and will take on bottom placed Knox next wee.
“We’re really happy with where we’re at. We’re playing some really good baseball at the moment and had some good wins,” Hodkinson said.
Heathmont coach John Edwards commented that ‘it was a see-sawing game that went down to the last play. GMBC are always formidable opponents and our guys played hard all day. We are hitting our straps at the right time and hope that we can reverse some of the first half of the years results’.
In other A Grade results, Essendon and Ringwood drew 2-2, Watsonia thrashed Forest Hill 10-0, North Balwyn got the better of Knox 9-4 and Research comfortably beat Greensborough 16-5.
