LA TROBE University have emerged from a tight tussle 3-2 over Doncaster in round 10 of the Melbourne Winter Baseball League B Grade season.

Played at Deep Creek Reserve on Saturday, the home side had bases loaded in the fifth innings when star La Trobe pitcher and coach came in and shut Doncaster down.

Turlea said it was an evenly fought contest with mistakes coming from both sides.

“Pitching was good on both sides. We had four hits and they had the same as well,” Turlea said.

“It was good to get away with the win.”

La Trobe were hanging to fourth spot before the game and the win took them to five for the season.

Next week the club hosts Diamond Creek in a big Friday night match.

Doncaster coach Brendan McDonald said it was another unlucky loss for his team.

He praised the pitching efforts of Turlea, saying he was the difference in the end.

“We had our best chance to win, then he came on and we lost by a run,” McDonald said.

Doncaster have the bye next week and are away the week after to Diamond Creek.

“We should still be in the top four after today. We’re not too worried at the moment, as long as we can get a few wins after the bye,” he said.
