La Trobe University Baseball Club has posted their first win for the season in the Melbourne Winter Baseball League B grade competition.
La Trobe comfortably defeated Diamond Creek 7-0 at Diamond Creek’s home ground. Last week La Trobe lost to Doncaster after getting off to a very slow start and giving up nine runs in the first innings. While they were able to claw their way back, they still went down 9-5.
La Trobe coach Alex Turlea said it was pleasing to come away with a resounding win this weekend.
He said stand outs were new Japanese import Yusuke Ikeda who had three hits and three stolen bases, Gabriel Turlea with two hits and Tyler Trevaskis with two hits.
He also praised new pitcher Ben Simpson who pitched for six innings only giving up three hits, with six strike outs.
Coach Turlea then closed the pitching duties for the match and finished with three strike outs.
A disappointed Diamond Creek Coach Leigh Scanlon said he had no comment to make after his team’s performance.
La Trobe play at night match at home next week against Monash, who have had a slow and disappointing start to the season and Diamond Creek are home again against Doncaster who have had one win and a bye.
