Greensborough win close battle in round 1.

GREENSBOROUGH BASEBALL CLUB have got the better of Greenhills Montmorency Baseball Club in the traditional heritage match season opener of the Melbourne Winter Baseball League.
After scoring three times in the bottom of the first inning, GMBC were then kept scoreless for the rest of the game with Greensborough ending up 4-3 winners.
Greensborough coach Jarrod Hodges said he was happy his side could peg GMBC back for a good win to kick off the season.
He said Stephen Hood and Ben Lethborg scored home run and that pitchers Hayden Godbold and new US recruit Andrew Smiley both pitched solidly.
“It was a good even contribution today,” Hodges said.
“It is always good to get a win early and get back together as a club.”
GMBC coach Chris Hodkinson said it was a great game of baseball, despite the loss.
“There pitching was just able to keep us at bay today,” Hodkinson said.
He praised the hitting from his players today and said the team had their chances.
Next week GMBC take on three-time reigning champions Heathmont and Greensborough are home to Research, last year’s runners up.
Other results from round one, North Balwyn defeated Heathmont 8-4 and Knox beat Forest Hill 7-2.
