Vale – Jack Wadsworth
The MWBL Executive, Clubs, Players and Supporters would like to pass onto the Wadsworth family and Malvern Baseball Club our condolences with the news of the passing of Jack Wadsworth
It is with a heavy heart that the baseball mourns the loss of baseball legend Jack Wadsworth, who passed 17th June 2014
Jack was involved for many decades with the Malvern Baseball Club
A man who finally hung up the cleats in his Eighties, a fierce competitor who believed in playing and living with heart.
Baseball benefitted most from his commitment and passion for the game, a passion that will sadly be missed throughout baseball.
Jack achieved much in his time at the Malvern Baseball Club, both on and off the field with highlights including :
- Representing Victoria in 1949, 1950 & 1960
- All Australian 1950
- VBA MVP 1950 & 1957
- Malvern club president 1984-1990
- Malvern playing coach 1956-1970
- Malvern Div 1 1sts coach 1982 & 1983
- Being awarded a Malvern. Life Membership 1964
- Coaching U18s 1973 to 1978 and again in 2007
- Most valuable clubman 1983
- General committee member from 1957 until recently
Amongst all of his achievements, above all we recognise Jack as one the greatest coaches, players and personalities in Victorian baseball history.
A man who will be remembered for what he did, what he said and what he stood for. A man who’s unwavering commitment to junior baseball should serve as a reminder that juniors are the most important foundation any club can have.
A man who once told an umpire “take a look at the sign young man, this park is named after me, not you, I’ll throw you out!”
